In celebration of the achievements of activists and philanthropists working for women’s equality, Sarah joined icon and host Gloria Steinem and shared a few of her characters’ visions for the future at the Ms. Foundation for Women’s Gloria Awards.
In April, Sarah shared the stage with legends Aretha Franklin, Meryl Streep, and even Miss Piggy (among many other extraordinary women) in celebration of Good Housekeeping Magazine’s 125th Anniversary. The event raised funds for the long overdue National Women’s History Museum in Washington, DC.
In March, Sarah participated alongside actress Meryl Streep in marking the fifteenth anniversary of the Platform for Action, Equality Now’s Beijing + 15 campaign. Sarah was introduced by Meryl and performed her piece Woman Can’t Wait commissioned by Equality Now. To watch the full performance click here. In December, Sarah performed for The Nation Gala entertaining an audience of progressives from Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky to author Walter Mosely and film directors Jonathan Demme and Oliver Stone.
This past December, Sarah brought a few of the characters of her Equality Now-commissioned piece Women Can’t Wait to the United Nations for the 30th Anniversary of the historic “women’s bill of rights”, CEDAW. She performed the short piece, which can be heard here, for an audience including Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon and High Commissioner for Human Rights Navinathem Pillay.
